Perth Glory is thrilled to announce the signing of gifted defensive midfielder Calem Nieuwenhof on a one-year loan from Scottish Premiership club Heart of Midlothian. The 25-year-old, who hails from Sydney, began his football career with Manly United before making his A-League debut for Sydney FC in January 2021. After a successful stint at Sydney FC, he moved to Western Sydney Wanderers, where he had a standout 2022/23 season, making 27 appearances and scoring four goals. His impressive performances earned him a spot in the PFA A-League Team of the Season and a subsequent move to Hearts, where he signed a four-year contract. Now, Nieuwenhof is eager to return to the A-League and contribute to Perth Glory's success. "I’m super excited to be joining Perth Glory," he stated. "I’m looking forward to getting back playing consistently and giving everything to help bring success to the club. It is a club with huge potential and I’m hoping we can challenge for the title this season." Glory's Football Director, Stan Lazaridis, expressed confidence in Nieuwenhof's abilities, stating, "Calem is a top-class player and securing his services is a real coup for us." He emphasized that Nieuwenhof's familiarity with Head Coach Adam Griffiths' style of play makes him a perfect fit for the team. With Nieuwenhof's versatility as a midfielder, he is expected to play a crucial role as Perth Glory aims for a successful campaign in the upcoming A-League season.
